Our very own Senior Citizen

Our lovable Buddy boy is going to be 9 in October. He is definitely getting up there in age, it makes me sad to think about the life expectancy for his breed. We have had him since he was a tiny puppy, and he is such a good dog.
Well, over the last year he has started having seizures. This past week he had one really severe, and was paralyzed for a good 20 minutes. We decided to take him to the vet and expected the worst.
She said we could do an MRI, and lab work. Ummm no thanks on the MRI. Too expensive. We opted not to do the lab work either.
I asked her about his quality of life and if the seizures were causing him pain. After watching him for a few hours and evaluating him, she said that he seems to be a very happy boy and that he came out of the seizure without lasting effects so his quality of life at this point is unaffected.
She told us that most likely due to his age the seizures could be from 4 things: a tumor and brain inflammation, his liver, or his blood sugar.
Dan and I felt like at this point it wouldn't do us any good to know the exact cause, but that we could just treat his symptoms as long as he isn't suffering. We are going to start him on an anti seizure medication.
I mentioned to the vet about his life expectancy, and she was funny she said, "Well… yes he is definitely a senior citizen!"
