Doggie shenanigans

The other night, I thought I was dreaming when I woke up for Cameron and saw Bailey in our dirty laundry basket. But nope- apparently this is the place to make yourself cozy.

And because it was such a great idea, Cocoa followed the same suit.

Our very own Senior Citizen

Our lovable Buddy boy is going to be 9 in October. He is definitely getting up there in age, it makes me sad to think about the life expectancy for his breed. We have had him since he was a tiny puppy, and he is such a good dog.
Well, over the last year he has started having seizures. This past week he had one really severe, and was paralyzed for a good 20 minutes. We decided to take him to the vet and expected the worst.
She said we could do an MRI, and lab work. Ummm no thanks on the MRI. Too expensive. We opted not to do the lab work either.
I asked her about his quality of life and if the seizures were causing him pain. After watching him for a few hours and evaluating him, she said that he seems to be a very happy boy and that he came out of the seizure without lasting effects so his quality of life at this point is unaffected.
She told us that most likely due to his age the seizures could be from 4 things: a tumor and brain inflammation, his liver, or his blood sugar.
Dan and I felt like at this point it wouldn't do us any good to know the exact cause, but that we could just treat his symptoms as long as he isn't suffering. We are going to start him on an anti seizure medication.
I mentioned to the vet about his life expectancy, and she was funny she said, "Well… yes he is definitely a senior citizen!"

Boston!

Now that Ty and Kristen are home owners, they decided it would be a good plan to expand their family- with a furry four legged friend. They bought a darling Bassett Hound and named him Boston. Jaxson is so excited, and informed us that Boston is his brother and his friend. Tyler and Kristen had some really late night plans so Jaxson and Boston spent the night. We had a fun sleepover!

Let me tell you- I am SO glad he is not our puppy. He is cute and fun, but training… so glad our fur-babies are past that stage. Good luck Tyler and Kristen!

The fur-babies love Cam

Dan and I will never forget how suddenly more protective Bailey became while I was pregnant. That hasn't changed. These dogs are super protective of their baby, and their family. A couple different times Cocoa has barked in such a way at the door that just sends chills up your spine, then runs to check on Cameron where ever he may be in the house.
Now that he is on the move, we do take precaution to watch the dogs closely with him, Cocoa and Buddy have growled at him for pulling their hair.
But, for the most part, all three of them let him climb all over them, and they just kiss and love him!!

I guess I'm not invincible, or an all power pet whisperer

I am an idiot. I tend to let it go to my head that I am good with animals. Ok, maybe I'm not even good with animals- but I love them. Too much maybe.
I thought I would be so smart, and even better- save money- by shaving Iliad myself instead of paying the groomer to do it.
It all started out just fine. He was being a good boy, and even seeming to enjoy the hair cut. Well, after his back was pretty well done, I started to do down his sides and by his legs. Well, he wasn't going to have that, and started getting mad. Okay, not just mad, beyond mad. I decided to stop before he got aggressive, but I had to brush him off... Well that was his last straw and he bit me. Not just a little bite. No, he sank his teeth way in, and wouldn't let go! Ouch doesn't begin to cover it. I also have a nice scratch from my neck down my chest.
So... off to instacare- they wouldn't stitch my arm, too great an infection risk. I had to get a tetanus shot, a shot of antibiotics in my butt, and an oral antibiotic and pain meds. Yep it is bad enough to get pain meds. The doctor is really worried that an infection is going to pop up, despite all the meds. Crossing my fingers and praying that won't happen.
Much to my dismay, I am not an animal whisperer. I am not invincible, and yes, my own cat that loves me will bite me if he feels the need.
Mind you- when I got home from the doctor- he was purring and wanting loves.

His half done hair cut....

Ouch....

A pet post...It's been a while!

Our pets have all made a fabulous transition to having a baby at home. Cocoa especially loves Cameron, and if I would let her, she would sleep in his room next to his crib every night.
The cats have just kind of ignored him for the most part- except that he has so many fluffy soft blankets, they try to take them over.
The other night, our Kitten was laying under Cam's gym, and totally playing with his toys like he does. It was really cute! She does what she has to to get attention these days!!
